چکیده

Background: C Treatment in all forms of CAH includes lifelong replacement steroids. Steroids have an impact on bone health multiple ways and are known to cause osteoporosis when given high doses or for a longer duration. Objective: To evaluate mineral density (BMD), using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan children with taking long-term steroids presenting the pediatric endocrinology ward National Institute Child Health, (NICH) Karachi, Pakistan. Materials Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed at Department Pediatric Endocrinology, Karachi from October 2021 July 2022. A total 47 diagnosed cases more than 5 years were enrolled. Assessment BMD done DEXA scan. Lumbar spine Z-score modified height age z-score. The dose duration calculated. Results: Out patients, low observed 8 (17.02%) patients. Individuals had significantly higher median duration, (p=0.017), (p=0.003), alkaline phosphate level (p=0.036),) but value (p=0.009) z score (p<0.001) normal individuals. Although appropriate chronologic moderate negative significant correlation between (rho=-0.319, p=0.029), z-score steroid treatment (rho=-0.364, p=0.012), (rho=-0.466, p=0.001), (rho=-0.378, p=0.009). Conclusion: Low 17% Moreover, these individuals average hydrocortisone.

Bone Mineral Density in Children and Adolescents with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

Chronic glucocorticoid therapy is associated with reduced bone mineral density. In paediatric patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia, increased levels of androgens could not only counteract this effect, but could also advance bone age, with interference in the evaluation of densitometry. We evaluate bone mineral density in paediatric patients with classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia ta...

Bone mineral density and vitamin D status in children and adolescents with congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

AIM To determine the prevalence of and risk factors for decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and vitamin D deficiency in children and adolescents with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was conducted on 30 girls and 22 boys with CAH (age range = 5-20 years) with median age of 12.0 years. BMD values of lumbar vertebras (L1-L4), which were determined by dual-...

INTRODUCTION Aim of this paper is to assess bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition, by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and various markers of bone growth, in a group of children with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) on long-term glucocorticoid therapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS A case-control study included thirty patients with CAH with different states of metabolic control. T...

Bone Mineral Density in Children with Relapsing Nephrotic Syndrome

AbstractBackground: Given the high relapse rate of disease in children with steroid dependent nephrotic syndrome and the osteoporotic effect of long periods of steroid therapy, this survey was performed to find the bone mineral status of these patients. Methods: Bone mineral density and content (BMD and BMC) were measured using Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry in 37 nephrotic children, six girl...

Bone Mineral Density in Egyptian Children with Familial Mediterranean Fever

Background: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) has episodic or subclinical inflammation that may lead to a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD). The objective of this study was to assess BMD in Egyptian children with FMF on genetic basis. Methods: A cross sectional study included 45 FMF patients and 25 control children of both sexes in the age range between 3-16 years old. The patients were re...
